The nitty gritty.

Those are the basics of my legal credentials, but what you really want to know is whether I am a good lawyer. Frankly, that's hard to know from a resume.

So, you have to dig a little deeper. Look at my credentials, my website, and my experience, absolutely, to see if I know what I'm talking about. Read what former clients or other attorneys say about me under Testimonials below.

Read my blog, One Rock, to understand why and how I practice law. Check out my personal and business Facebook pages to get a sense of my life outside the law. My LinkedIn profile is here.

Finally, read My Mission statement. Once you've done all of that, you will have a better sense of me as a person, as a lawyer. Then, you need to decide if you feel comfortable with me and confident in my abilities.  If you do, consider hiring me.  If you don’t, then I appreciate you stopping by.

He's very detail-oriented and very thorough in his research and his work-product. He writes beautiful and convincing arguments. He's a very well-rounded person who applies to the practice of law his personal beliefs and wonderful qualities. ~ Patricia M.

Bert is the brightest, most thoughtful, hard working lawyer I have ever worked with anywhere. When the bullets start flying in litigation, I want Bert on my side. While reflective and hard to anger, he is a tenacious litigator, dedicated to getting the best results for his clients, and always thinking a step ahead.... He excels at complex litigation and legal theories, and has a keen ability to keep the big picture in focus. I watched Bert argue a case in front of the Alabama Supreme Court and have tried a month-long false advertising case in California with him, and have never seen Bert rattled in the courtroom or otherwise.... He is no doubt, the best lawyer I know.... In addition to his ability, I found that clients love him and grow to trust him very quickly. In fact, the longer you are around him, the more he grows on you. Bert is a lawyer of the highest grade and I highly recommend him without any reservation.

~ Richard B.

Bert Miano is a resourceful and creative lawyer -- and a kind and fun-loving person to be around. He is both one of those people who is hard not to like and a constant surprise because of his creativity. If you describe a problem to Bert, he can find a favorable solution when most lawyers cannot or give up. His oral and written communication skills are excellent. When I left a large corporate firm to start a small firm that would represent consumers in complex litigation, Bert was the person I asked to join us. He was a pleasure to have on our team.

The basics.

I am a seasoned AV-rated Litigator with more than 24 years of experience representing individuals and entrepreneurs in all types of complex and class litigation. My background includes experience handling a wide range of litigation for clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to individuals.

Right after law school, I worked for one year as a law clerk to a federal judge. At the end of my clerkship, I went to work for a national employment defense firm for a few years, then helped start a boutique litigation firm specializing in termite litigation and class actions for false advertising.

I opened my own specialty litigation firm in 2005 with an emphasis on preserving the rights of working folks and individuals.

My journey began in Columbia, Mississippi, in the southwestern part of the state not too far from New Orleans, Louisiana, where my father was the manager of a factory that made blue jeans and military uniforms and my mother was a stay-at-home mom who later worked in the local library.

I graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi with a bachelor's degree in English Literature. I was a Congressional aide/speechwriter in Washington during the last two years of the Reagan Administration and a journalist in my home state of Mississippi for six years.

Since I began practicing law, I have tried or mediated dozens of cases to conclusion, argued successfully before the Supreme Court of Alabama, and handled successful appeals before the Fourth, Eleventh and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeal, as well as state appellate courts in Alabama and California. I am licensed in Alabama (1997), California (2003), and North Carolina (2015), and accept cases in all three states although my practice is based in North Carolina.

Since 1998, I have obtained verdicts or settlements for thousands of clients in amounts valued at more than $10 million.

I was awarded Martindale-Hubbell's highest rating of AV Preeminent in my sixth year of practice -- testament to the fact that my peers (judges and other lawyers) rank me and my firm at the highest level of professional excellence. The rating is an objective indicator of a lawyer's high ethical standards and professional ability, generated from evaluations of lawyers by other members of the bar and the judiciary.

My mission.

One home, one family, one heart...

I specialize in litigation. I have been trying cases for my entire career, and am experienced in a wide range of litigation, including class actions, personal injury, discrimination, sexual harassment, contract cases, pest control, and property damage cases.

Because of my experience, I know that litigation can be a devastating blow to most people and their families. It is emotionally and financially draining. It requires stamina and patience and persistence. It demands your full attention and willingness to face off against an army of lawyers trying to discredit you. Even if you have the strength to fight back, the outcome is never certain and certainly never easy. You may endure all of this and receive nothing.

It doesn't have to be that way.

I've been down this road before. I understand the pain of facing down your accusers and standing up to bullies. I believe you, and I want to make sure your story gets told in a way that gives you a fair shot at justice.

I know the tactics defense lawyers use to make your life miserable. I use technology to even the odds between my individual clients and the giant corporations with their armies of lawyers and experts. I bring creative thinking and thorough preparation to bear on every case. My goal in every case is to make my clients whole again, to ease some of their anxiety and stress, to get them back to where they were before some unexpected, sometimes horrific, event made them call me.

I have experience in tough, complex cases with national impact, but I love to fight the smaller battles that bring justice to only one home, one family, one heart. Those are the cases and clients that truly motivate me.

I take the time to listen and build an individual relationship with you so that I can be effective telling your story to a judge and jury. That's what it takes to get justice from the giants – a passionate advocate who hears his clients' voices, feels compassion for them, fights hard and never quits. One well-placed rock can slay a giant.
